TORRINGTON – The Warner Theatre will present The Metropolitan Opera’s popular "Live in HD" series for the 2011-2012 season. The new initiative will debut at 7:30 p.m. May 12 at the Warner’s Nancy Marine Studio Theatre with an encore performance of Strauss’s Capriccio.
Renée Fleming will sing her first complete Met performance as the elegant Countess in Richard Strauss’s Capriccio. Fleming sang the demanding final scene of the opera in a gala opening of the Met’s 2008-09 season, but this season’s performance is her first time singing the full opera with the company.
Andrew Davis, who led the Met premiere of the opera in 1998, returns to conduct its first revival, which also stars Joseph Kaiser as the composer Flamand, Russell Braun as the poet Olivier, Sarah Connolly as Clairon, Morten Frank Larsen in his Met debut as the Count, Peter Rose as the flamboyant La Roche, and Barry Banks and Olga Makarina as a temperamental Italian tenor and soprano; all are making Met role debuts.
Patrons who attend this summer encore performance will be admitted to a VIP pre-show reception at 6:45 p.m. where they will learn more about The Met’s upcoming 2011-2012 Live in HD season.
Information will also be available regarding membership in the Warner Theatre Opera Guild.
The Warner’s Opera Guild is a group of patrons dedicated to supporting opera programming at the historic theatre. Its members were responsible for raising the money necessary to purchase the essential equipment to present the live broadcasts. Opera Guild members enjoy a host of special perks for pledging their support of the initiative.

Tickets for the "Summer with the Met" performances are $20, $18 (for seniors and students with I.D.) and $10 for children 13 and under. To purchase tickets patrons should contact the Warner Box office at 860-489-7180 or online at www.warnertheatre.org.
