The Roman Catholic Community is sponsoring its eighth annual Catholic Concerns Day on April 5. This is the day that Connecticut's Catholics, united as Catholics, have a voice at the state Capitol. The day begins with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of St., Joseph in Hartford, followed by a procession to the Capitol at 10:30 a.m. and meetings with legislators from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the the Legislative Office Building. Attendees are being asked to call ahead for an appointment with their our legislators. Make the appointments for between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. by calling them at the following numbers: Senate Democrats: 1-800-842-1420; Senate Republicans: 1-800-842-1421; House Democrats: 1-800-842-1902; House Republicans: 1-800-842-1423. Organizers say that even if you do not plan to meet with your legislator, you should plan to attend to show support for the Church and the issues it attempts to address in our state. It is a good opprtunity to learn about the issues and share community with other Catholics, they say.Shuttle buses will be available from off-site parking at St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, for travel to the Cathedral from 8-9 a.m. The last bus pickup to St. Thomas Seminary will be at 2 p.m. For more information, call the Connecticut Catholic Conference (860-524-7882).
