SIMSBURY – Television basketball analyst Rebecca Lobo will put St. Mary’s School on the nation's radar when she participates as a contestant on Jeopardy! Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational on April 15. Ms. Lobo, who has a kindergartner at St. Mary's, has chosen the school as her charity; it will be the recipient of her winnings from the show, which will be aired at 7:30 p.m. on WTNH-TV Channel 8. Each month, three celebrities compete to raise funds for their special causes. Each participant is guaranteed $25,000 for his or her charity, while the winner is guaranteed $50,000 and advances to the semi-finals. The celebrity shows will culminate in the finals this May, when $1 million will be awarded to the winner's charity. Marie Gannatti, principal of St. Mary's, said, “We're honored that Rebecca has chosen St. Mary's School to benefit from her Jeopardy! winnings. We're really excited to see her participate on the show, and, of course, we'll be praying for her and cheering her on." She added, "Rebecca has done so much for St. Mary’s School already, and she continues to give of her time and talents. We’re so very grateful to her for helping our school. ” Ms. Lobo is an ESPN commentator, University of Connecticut Conn women’s basketball legend, former WNBA player, and member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Basketball Team at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. She is married to writer/author Steve Rushin, and they have three children. St. Mary’s School is the Farmington Valley’s only Catholic school for children age 3 through eighth grade.
