FARMINGTON – Three celebrities joined about 100 other golfers Aug. 5 at the Tunxis Plantation Country Club to take a "swing" at prostate cancer. The Curtis D. Robinson Men’s Health Institute (CDRMHI) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center sponsored the event, the first Annual Celebrity Golf Classic.
Celebrities included singer, song-writer and actor Clifton Davis; two-time former NFL Superbowl champion Richard Blackmore; and former NBA player Chris Smith.
The event raised $56,000.
Dr. Ben Carson, a prostate cancer survivor, delivered the keynote address at the luncheon. Dr. Carson is professor of neurosurgery, oncology and plastic surgery as well as pediatrics director, division of pediatric neurosurgery and co-director, the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center. He also signed copies of his two books, "Gifted Hands" and "Think Big."
