BLOOMFIELD – "Becoming a Eucharistic People – We Become What We Do" is the title of an afternoon of reflection for extraordinary ministers of holy Communion to be presented from 1:30-5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary.
Msgr. Gerard G. Schmitz, rector/president of St. Thomas Seminary and vicar for priests of the Archdiocese of Hartford, will discuss the centrality of the Eucharist in the life of a Catholic as well as explore basic eucharistic themes from the Scriptures and Church documents.
The afternoon is designed to be an opportunity for extraordinary ministers to enrich their own spirituality and to deepen their appreciation of this sacrament. It is being presented by the archdiocese’s Office for Divine Worship.
The day will conclude with exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction.
Msgr. Schmitz has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford for 44 years. Msgr. Schmitz was the assistant pastor in several parishes from 1968 to 1992, when he was appointed pastor of St. Margaret Parish in Madison.
He holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Divinity degrees from St. Bernard Seminary in Rochester, N.Y.
Advance registration is required and the registration deadline is Sept. 4.
