dscn2223_fs Chad Wable, president and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, presents a check for $1,000 to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery in honor of Sister Patricia Corcoran, center, a member of that order and director of the pastoral care department, who retired on Sept. 1 after 39 years of service to St. Mary's Hospital.

The gift was given at a luncheon that followed a Mass. Sister Dolores Lahr, provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph in West Hartford, accepted the gift. Sister Pat began her association with St. Mary's in 1970 as a volunteer associate, working as a teacher at Sacred Heart High School during the school year and volunteering at the hospital full-time during the summer. As a Fullbright Scholar who studied in Rome and Naples, she also taught Latin, history and government for 34 years in schools in Waterbury, Bristol, Hartford and West Haven. After receiving a master's degree in pastoral ministries from St. Joseph College in West Harford, she joined Saint Mary's on a full-time basis as a pastoral associate, and was named director of the pastoral care department in 1994. She also holds a master's degree in Latin from Boston College. Sister Pat plans to retire to the provincial house of the Sisters of St. Joseph in West Hartford. Click here to enlarge.
