SrAngelaGertsema HAMDEN – Sister Angela Gertsema, a member of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, professed her perpetual vows at a Mass June 26 in the chapel of the order’s provincial house.

Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport was the principal celebrant.

A reception and dinner for sisters, families and friends followed at Sacred Heart Manor. The celebration concluded a week-long retreat directed by Msgr. James Turro, an adjunct professor of sacred Scripture at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell.

Sister Angela is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gertsema of St. Joseph, Mo. A graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School in St. Joseph, Mo., and Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., she ministers at Santa Maria School in the Bronx, N.Y.

The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are engaged in elementary and secondary education, special education, social and parish ministry, health care and immigration ministry.
