ASCJ-Valla HAMDEN – The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus honored sisters celebrating significant anniversaries of vowed life in two separate Masses of Thanksgiving in June.

At the eucharistic liturgy for the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, on June 4, celebrated at the Sacred Heart Manor chapel, sisters celebrating 60, 65, 75 and 80 years of vowed life were honored. The sisters also renewed their vows.

Sisters Ursula Bongiovanni, Eugenia Sortino and Rita Amarante celebrated 60 years. Sisters Marcella Polizzi, Clotilde Como and Carolyn Capobianco marked 65 years of profession. Sister Rose Marie Traficanti celebrated 75 years, and Sister Maria DalZovo observed 80 years of vowed life.

Marist Father Gerard Pelletier, the sisters’ chaplain, was the principal celebrant. A dinner for the honorees, other sisters, families and friends followed.

Golden jubilarian Sister Dominic Joseph Valla was honored at a Mass of thanksgiving June 20 in the chapel of the provincial house of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sister Dominic Joseph is a pastoral associate at St. Patrick Parish in East Hampton.

The main celebrant was Father Dominic Valla, brother of Sister Dominic Joseph, of St. Thomas the Apostle Rectory in Oxford. A reception followed.
