HAMDEN – Sophomore Mary Sarah Olson, right, has been chosen to represent Sacred Heart Academy at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar and sophomore Claire Lagarde has been selected as the alternate.

The school's Social Studies Departent based its selections on essays about leadership.

The Connecticut seminar is scheduled to take place June 2 to 4 at the University of Bridgeport.

Miss Olson is the daughter of K. Craig Olson and Laura Sims-Olson of North Haven. Miss Legarde's parents are Konrad and Karen Lagarde of Milford.

Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation.

HOBY seminars are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. These seminars allow select students to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences. The HOBY seminar is the only program exclusively designed for high school sophomores.
