WEST HAVEN – Robert A. Keefe Jr., age 86, for 60 years the husband of Marie Ann (Marquis) Keefe, died suddenly on March 7, 2011, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1925, in New Haven, the son of Robert A. and Eleanor (Bergen) Keefe Sr. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and received both a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He graduated in 1949 from Niagara University with a degree in business administration. For more than 50 years, he was general manager of Champion Auto of New Haven.

Mr. Keefe was a communicant at Our Lady of Victory Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by seven children, Father Daniel G. Keefe, Pastor of St. Joan of Arc Church in Hamden; Maureen Kelly of West Haven; Eileen Keefe of Hamden; Susan Keefe of Wallingford; Robert A. Keefe III of Guilford; James B. Keefe of Wrentham, Mass.; and Timothy P. Keefe of Guilford. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Keefe was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Conniff and Marion Maloney.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 11 at Our Lady of Victory. Interment followed in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
