He had been a chaplain at Waterbury Hospital for 27 years. He was born on March 13, 1937, in Waterbury, the son of the late Ann Mary (Ferrucci) Bollea and Sebastian Bollea. He studied at Cathedral High School in Hartford; St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield; St. Bernard Seminary in Rochester, N.Y.; and Seminaire St. Sulpice in Issy, France. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 30, 1962, at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris by Cardinal Maurice Feltin. Father Bollea was a temporary assistant and assistant pastor at St. Bartholomew Parish in Manchester in 1962, and then was appointed as an assistant at St. Rose in New Haven. He returned to St. Bartholomew in 1972, and then became pastor of St. Mary Parish in Derby in 1978. He was appointed chaplain for Waterbury Hospital in 1984. He received the hospital’s Humanitarian Award in 2005. During his time as chaplain at Waterbury Hospital, Father Bollea also assisted in many parishes in the greater Waterbury area; he also served as temporary administrator, when the need arose, at Our Lady of Loreto and St. Stanislaus parishes in Waterbury and at St. Augustine in Seymour.
In 2008, he became the coordinator of the Hospital Apostolate in addition to serving as chaplain at Waterbury Hospital. Father Bollea leaves a sister, Madelyn Pesci of Columbia, S.C.; five nieces and nephews; and five grandnieces and grandnephews. Archbishop Henry J. Mansell was the principal celebrant of a Mass of Christian Burial on Nov. 26 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Waterbury. Father John Cooney, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Watertown, was the homilist. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Windsor Locks.
