BRIDGEPORT – Father George F. Healy, a member of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost since 1942, died on Oct. 21, 2011, at St. Vincent Medical Center.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1927, a son of the late Michael W. and Elizabeth Coughlin Healy. Father Healy was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop John Hackett of Hartford on Feb. 5, 1953.

Following his ordination, he served in several parishes in Puerto Rico from 1954-68. In succeeding years, he served in parishes in Arizona, New Orleans and California. His later ministries involved duties as a vocation director; superior; pastor of St. Agnes Parish in San Antonio; and director of a priests’ retirement home in Hemet, Calif.

Father Healy was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Cupp and Sarah (Sally) Bearss; and six brothers, John (Jack) F., Clement J., Michael W., Joseph A. and Robert W. Healy and Father James K. Healy of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost. He is survived by two sisters, Edna Healy Henchy and Sister of Mercy Mary L. Healy of West Hartford; and two brothers, Patrick F. and Charles W. Healy.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 25 at St. Mark Church in Stratford.
