WATERBURY – Thomas Joseph Ginty Jr., 89, of Waterbury, husband of the late Agnes E. (Holland) Ginty, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital’s VITAS Innovative Hospice Care Unit.

Mr. Ginty was the father of Msgr. Thomas M. Ginty, pastor of the Church of St. Matthew in Forestville, and Theresa Butkovic of Waterbury; and grandfather of Kristina DiDominzio of Southington, Michael Butkovic of Watertown and Kathryn Butkovic of Waterbury. He also leaves a great-grandson, Vincent J. DiDominzio IV; a sister, Mary T. McDonnell of Maple Shade, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Joseph Ginty.

Mr. Ginty was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Thomas J. Ginty Sr. and Agnes (Jordan) Ginty. Mr. Ginty was a graduate of LaSalle College High School in Philadelphia. He served in Europe in the United States Army during World War II. After his military service, he attended the University of Pennsylvania. In 1946, he joined the Kresge management-training program and managed six Kresge stores in Philadelphia. In 1973, he was appointed as the first general manager of the Kmart in Waterbury.

Mr. Ginty was an active communicant of St. Leo the Great Parish in Waterbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 3 at the Church of St. Matthew. Contributions may be made in Mr. Ginty's memory to the Holy Cross High School Scholarship Fund, 587 Oronoke Road, Waterbury, CT 06708.
