WEST HARTFORD – Four outstanding athletes from four sports at Northwest Catholic High School have committed to play Division 1 sports at four different colleges in the fall.

They are Justin Strid, who will play football for Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.; Jenniqua Bailey, who will play basketball for Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.; Alexandra Iovine, who will be on the soccer team at Manhattan College in the Bronx, N.Y., and Thomas Bourdon, who will play baseball for Boston College.

Justin, a co-captain at Northwest Catholic, was all-conference and all-state in both his junior and senior years. The inside linebacker also led the team in tackles for the past two years and has a total of 210 tackles at Northwest Catholic. He is the son of Scott and Ann Strid of Avon.

Jenniqua is a point guard who is approaching her 1,000th point on Northwest Catholic’s basketball team. Named MVP as a sophomore and all-conference in her freshman, sophomore and junior years, the co-captain of an undefeated, top-ranked team was named to the 2009 all-tournament team of the Northwest Conference Tournament and the 2009 Avon Christmas tournament team. She is the daughter of Sandra Feurtado of Bloomfield.

Thomas, son of Peter and Mary Bourdon of Simsbury, is a star centerfielder, pitcher and hitter who will play baseball for Boston College. A co-captain of baseball and basketball, he was all-conference as a freshman, sophomore and junior and was the first all-state junior the school has ever had.

Alexandra is the daughter or Mark and Lisa Iovine of Canton. Since she transferred to Northwest Catholic as a junior, she has started every game and holds the school record for assists in a single season (28) and also for a career (46). Her 50 points in 2009 led the team. The center midfielder was all-conference as a junior and senior and both all-state and all-Courant as a senior.

Margaret R. Williamson, principal, praised the athletes and said, "We’ll be watching for updates in the alumni magazine."
