stbernard_inductees Ten students at St. Bernard School in Enfield who were inducted recently into the National Junior Honor Society stand with their pastor, Father John P. Melnick, and principal, Sister M. Juanita Szymanski. The children are, from left, Samantha Lavoie, Tyler Noll, Francesca Kaufmann, Brendan Fahey, Sarah Cota, Stephanie Cota, Shannon Moran, Sarah Crowley, Jazlyn Veloso and Preston Lorenz.

Each year, the school’s chapter of the honor society recognizes junior high students who exemplify the pillars of the society: leadership, scholarship, service, citizenship and character.

"They are an impressive group of young adults – their teachers, parents and peers are proud of them," said Sister Juanita.

The National Honor Society and the National Junior Honor Society are the nation’s premiere organizations recognizing outstanding middle level and high school students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.

"We often hear that young people are the leaders of tomorrow. Actually these talented students are leaders today in their schools and in community service activities," said Rocco Marano, director of the two honor societies.
