HAMDEN – Twenty-two students from the Sacred Heart Academy class of 2010 earned the designation of 4.0 Gold Tassel Scholars and wore gold tassels at their recent commencement exercises. Gold Tassel Scholars hold cumulative four-year minimum average of 4.0. The names of the Gold Tassel Scholars follow: Caitlin Axtmayer, 18, daughter of Patricia Hayes-Axtmayer and Alfredo Axtmayer of Wallingford, who will attend Boston College; Angela Badore, 17, daughter of Barbara and Paul Badore of Bristol, who will major in history at Gettysburg College; Emily Baumgaertner, 17, daughter of Irene and Michael Baumgaertner of Northford, who will major in cognitive neuroscience at George Washington University; Lauren Bruchansky, 18, daughter of Ann and Peter Bruchansky of Hamden, who will attend Fairfield University; and Alexandra Buda, 17, daughter of Roxana and Stephen Buda of Woodbridge, who will major in molecular and cell biology at UConn. Also, Nicole Byrnes, 18, daughter of Christina and Richard Byrnes of Shelton, who will be a biology major at Providence College; Rose Cersonsky, 17, daughter of Nancy Cersonsky of Oxford, who will major in civil engineering at UConn; Christina D’Agostino, 18, daughter of Mary and Vincent D’Agostino of Meriden, who will major in biology at Providence College; and Cassandra DeFelice, 17, daughter of Deborah and Mark DeFelice of North Branford, who will be a social work major at Stony Brook University. Also, Meagan Edmonds, 17, daughter of Alice Bruno and Christian Edmonds of Branford, who will major in biology at Tufts University; Rebecca Farrell, 17, daughter of Susan and Timothy Farrell of Milford, who will attend High Point University; Aleah George, 18, daughter of Lori and Michael Blanco and Linda and Donald George of Cheshire, who will attend Providence College; Stephanie Hurley, 17, daughter of Laura and Thomas Hurley of Seymour, who will attend Fairfield University; and Laura Kurjanowicz, 17, daughter of Jane Russo and Andrew Kurjanowicz of Bethany, who will attend Providence College. Also, Jenna LaRiviere, 18, daughter of Susan and Robert LaRiviere of Prospect, who will attend Dickinson College with a double major in archaeology and classical studies; Corinne Makar, 18, daughter of Ellen and John Makar of Orange, who plans to major in mathematics and psychology at Boston College; Alexandria McPherson, 18, daughter of Susan Fasulo-McPherson and James McPherson of North Haven, who will attend Providence College; and Kyra Munzenmaier, 17, daughter of Daria Friel and Allan Munzenmaier of Wallingford, who will major in neuroscience at the University of Miami. Also, Michelle Shemkovitz, 18, daughter of Alison and Bernard Shemkovitz of Meriden, who will attend Saint Joseph College; Danielle Szymaszek, 18, daughter of Tammi-Lyn and Thomas Szymaszek of Meriden, who will be a communications and theater major at SCSU; Lizbeth Torres, 17, daughter of Aida Torres-Ruiz and Edwin Torres of Meriden, who will major in biology/pre-dental at UConn; and Heather Vicenty, 17, daughter of Catherine and William Vicenty of Meriden, who will major in nursing at York College of Pennsylvania. Sacred Heart Academy, an independent Catholic college preparatory school founded in 1946 by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, accepts young women in grades nine through 12. The academy currently has an enrollment of 500 students hailing from New Haven, Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex and New London counties.
