NORTH HAVEN – Joseph Bonito of Wallingford and Deidre Mitchell of North Haven are recipients of the St. Frances Cabrini Men’s Club/Rev. Vincent E. Lyddy Scholarships for 2010. Each has been granted a $1,200 award to assist and encourage the pursuit of higher education. Mr. Bonito is the son of Kelly and Anthony Bonito and a graduate of Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford. He was a longtime altar server at St. Frances Cabrini and has been involved in numerous community organizations. He was a peer tutor in algebra and a high-honors student and was inducted into several honor societies. He has received many accolades for his soccer playing. He has been involved in several youth conferences, conventions and clubs during his high school years and has volunteered many hours in the community. He plans to enter Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. Miss Mitchell is the daughter of Elizabeth and Thomas Mitchell and a graduate of North Haven High School. She has been involved at St. Frances Cabrini in the Christ’s Team Youth Ministry and has been a religious education teacher at the parish. She has served as a youth lector on Sundays. Miss Mitchell was named to several honor societies and was among the top 10 in her graduating class. She was involved in many activities, including tennis and volleyball; and she has volunteered in helping the elderly and less fortunate. She will attend the University of Connecticut in Storrs this fall.
