Sam_Izzarelli-008 MIDDLETOWN – Xavier High Scgool senior Sam Izzarelli of Hebron has signed a National Letter of Intent accepting an athletic scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse for the Manhattan College Jaspers under Coach Tim McIntee in Riverdale, N.Y. At Xavier, Sam has played varsity lacrosse for the past three seasons under Mr. Basile. Sam has been named team co-captain for the 2012 season and is a defenseman for the Falcons as well as a long stick midfielder. Sam also plays for the Progression Lacrosse Hurricanes in the summer and fall leagues.

In addition to excelling at lacrosse, Sam’s academic honors at Xavier include his induction into the Monsignor Wilson Chapter of the National Honor Society. He also received the National Latin Exam Award magna cum laude in 2009. Sam played freshman football at Xavier and ran for the junior varsity cross-country team in his sophomore year. Sam is also a member of the Xavier Columbia Squires Chapter, Xavier Debate Team, Model UN and the Environthon Clubs. In 2010 Sam was recognized with the Best Delegate Award at the Fairfield University Model UN Conference. Sam is an Eagle Scout with Troop 28 of the Boy Scouts of America in Hebron.

Sam plans to study business administration with a concentration on pre-law at Manhattan.
