Parents from across Alto Tete are waiting for a vaccine against Covid-19 to arrive, and are also following the growth of cases and hospitalizations caused by the ômicron variant.
Physician Gonzalo Vecina highlights that Omicron is a new species that has a pollution capacity six times greater than others, such as Delta. “That’s why hospitals, emergency rooms, and UPAs are overcrowded. And worse, health professionals are getting sick and having a hard time looking after us.”
What is being observed in Brazil, as well as in South Africa and England, Vesina said, is that the growth in the number of cases is very large and lasts about four to five weeks. “In England, when cases started in early December, they were growing. But in mid-January, the number of cases started declining, although still very high, concludes the doctor.
He believes that Brazil will also go through a similar scenario. For the doctor, vaccination is the only way to combat the rising number of cases and the epidemic. Instructs everyone to complete the vaccination schedule and immunize children against Covid-19. “Until the whole community is protected so that we can escape this alternative and possible future variables.”
Vecina cautions that it is not possible to determine if the micron has actually reached its peak, as no further testing is being done. “Unfortunately, Brazil has decided not to test anymore. So we are not sure where we are. But I think there is still room to grow a little more.”
