messiahWilliam Boughton, conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, center, and performers of Handel’s "Messiah" acknowledge applause on Dec. 9 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the cathedral’s Schola Cantorum offered a pared-down version of "Messiah." Dr. Ezequiel Menendez, the cathedral’s music director, said that limiting the scale of the production was done "to be as historically accurate as we could be" at re-creating Handel’s original staging. Dr. Menendez also performed Handel’s "Organ Concerto in F Major," accompanied by the orchestra. The concert was part of the cathedral’s Sacred Sounds Concert Series. (Photo by Bob Mullen)
