The New England Newspaper & Press Association has recognized The Catholic Transcript as a Distinguished Newspaper of the Year.
The Transcript was honored in the specialty newspaper class.
The award was presented on Oct. 6 during the newspaper association's annual fall conference held in Natick, Mass.
The annual newspaper awards recognize the region's highest-quality newspapers based on experts' and readers' impressions of their reporting and writing, as well as use of photos, design and presentation, online offerings, and overall use and value.
The same association awarded The Transcript its General Excellence Award in its 2010 Better Newspaper Contest in February.
Vermont Woman was named the 2011 New England Newspaper of the Year in the specialty newspaper category.
In June, The Transcript took first prize for general excellence from the Catholic Press Association.
