nwc-adoration 0380Sister Angela Marie Castellani, a member of the Fransiscan Sisters of the Eucharist and a religion teacher at Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, leads her class in prayer for peace in Syria during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and adoration in the school chapel Sept. 6.

"Today, especially with the Holy Father’s request for prayer for Syria, and our not having school tomorrow, we hope that this will be our participation in the prayer for peace" the Holy Father decreed for Sept. 7, Sister Angela said.

She said the school is blessed to have Deacons Richard Santos and Jeffrey Sutherland on staff, because only a cleric is allowed to expose and repose the Blessed Sacrament.

Exposition and adoration take place from 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on first Fridays at the school and every Friday during Advent and Lent.

"I think it’s a wonderful story of what’s taking place at Northwest Catholic as we continue to expand the whole idea of mission formation and evangelization in our Catholic schools," said Dr. Dale R. Hoyt, archdiocesan superintendent of Catholic schools. (Photo by Jack Sheedy)
