Archbishop Leonard P. Blair greets some of the 16 pilgrims outside the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield moments before they all boarded a bus to the airport June 24.
Another 17 pilgrims boarded the bus at St. Bridget Parish in Cheshire, en route to a nine-day pilgrimage to Rome, where Archbishop Blair was scheduled to receive the pallium, a symbol of apostolic authority, from Pope Francis on June 29 in St. Peter's Square.
Archbishop Emeritus Henry J. Mansell and Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Peter A. Rosazza also accompanied Archbishop Blair.
“I’ve been to Rome many times, but this is a special trip for me,” Archbishop Blair said. “Excited may not be the word to describe my feelings. It’s more a feeling of anticipation.” (Photo by Jack Sheedy)
