Maggie Cody, a fifth grader at St. Mary School in Milford, generates some energy with pedal power recently as part of her school’s annual all-day STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program.
Volunteer Charlie Wetmore, the parent of another student, adjusted the tension as students took turns seeing how much power they could generate, as evidenced by the height light reached on a rod.
The annual enrichment program turns the gymnasium into a base that encourages critical thinkers and innovators and increases science literacy.
Work stations included energy, technology, robotics, gear ratios, friction and more.
The students saw, learned about and played with robots, archways, 3-D printers, gears and more.
