BLOOMFIELD – Four candidates for priesthood will be ordained to the transitional diaconate at 11 a.m. Dec. 12 in the chapel of the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary.

Archbishop Leonard P. Blair will ordain Matthew Gworek, Patrick Kane, Philip O'Neil and Philip Schulze, marking another step forward on their path to priesthood.

Candidates for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Hartford must earn a bachelor’s degree and complete prerequisite courses in philosophy and theology. Part of their formation also includes assignments to various parishes across the archdiocese during summer and semester breaks to gain experience in parish ministry.

Over the next five months, the transitional deacons will continue their studies and formation at their respective seminaries and continue to assist at different parishes. Once they complete their assignments and studies, they will petition the archbishop to be ordained as priests in May.
