pisani chapel 001 2a 900x600Archbishop Leonard P. Blair of the Archdiocese of Hartford celebrates a dedication Mass in the newly restored chapel of the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia on February 9.

Joining him are, from left, Father Rafal Kopystynski of St. Michael Church in Derby; Deacon Larry Yergeau of Assumption; Father Mitch Wanat of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia; Father James Sullivan, pastor of Assumption; Deacon Robert Johnson of St. Mary Church in Derby; and senior priest Father Leonard Kvedas, from St. Michael Church in Beacon Falls.

Also attending the dedication was artist Paul Armesto of Queens, who painted the murals on the ceiling of the chapel, depicting the Assumption and Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and who helped with the redesign.

Archbishop Blair also blessed the remodeled Father George Burnett Social Center and the St. Francis Food Pantry in the lower floor of the rectory.

An anonymous parish donor paid for the project and parishioners contributed to the construction, which was overseen by Father Sullivan, a former contractor.
