WEST HARTFORD – Sister Ann Marie Noonan, of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Northeast Community, died on Aug. 12.

Born on Sept. 10, 1938, in Hartford, she was a daughter of Bridget (Heneghan) and Michael Noonan. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Sept. 8, 1956.

Sister Ann received her bachelor’s degree from the Diocesan Teacher’s College, her nursing degree from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and her nursing home administrator certification from the University of Connecticut.

Sister Ann served as assistant director of Nursing at Mercyknoll in West Hartford, a clinical instructor of nursing at New York University Medical Center and administrator of the Miller Memorial Community in Meriden for more than 25 years.

After leaving Miller Memorial Community, she was a nurse supervisor at West Rock Health Care Facility in New Haven. At the request of her community, her last ministry was spent as the interim administrator of Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland, R.I.

Sister Ann is survived by her sister, Barbara Leavitt of Cape Cod, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Mercy. She was predeceased by her brothers, Air Force Col. Richard A. Noonan, La Salette Father James Noonan, John Noonan, Thomas Noonan and Michael Noonan; and by her sister, Gerry Noonan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Aug. 18 at the Connor Chapel of Our Lady at St. Joseph College in West Hartford. Burial was in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
