BLOOMFIELD - Father Mario P. Pepe, retired Pastor of St. John Fisher Church in Marlborough, died on Sept. 17 at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.
He was born on March 23, 1928, a son of the late Louise (Cipriani) and Pasquale Pepe. He was raised and educated in Branford and was the valedictorian of Branford High Schools class of 1946. He was also a graduate of St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield and St. Bernard Seminary in Rochester, N.Y.
Father Pepe was ordained to the priesthood on May 10, 1956, at St. Joseph Cathedral by Archbishop Henry J. OBrien. He celebrated his first public Mass three days later at St. Mary Church in Branford.
He is survived by his brother, Louis Pepe of Branford; his nephews and niece and their families, Gary and Linda Pepe, David and Valeria Pepe, Richard and Kris Pepe, and Dianne and John Belanger. He is also survived by several cousins.
Father Pepe served in the parishes of St. Paul in Kensington, Holy Rosary in Ansonia, St. Philip in East Windsor and St. John Fisher in Marlborough.
In his retirement, he volunteered as chaplain at St. Mary Home in West Hartford.
Archbishop Henry J. Mansell celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Sept. 21 in the chapel of the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Father John S. Golas, Pastor of St. Mary Parish in Unionville, preached the homily. Interment followed in St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
