PUTNAM – Sister Claire Francis Pelletier, 96, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Nov. 3 in Holy Spirit Health Care Center, where she had resided since her retirement in 1995.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1913, in Fitchburg Mass., a daughter of the late Arsene and Loria (Dupuis) Pelletier. She entered religious life in 1937 and made her religious profession on Aug. 22, 1940, at the motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France.

Sister Claire served in France for two years during World War II. From 1942-44, she was an internee at Vittel, France. Upon her return to the United States, she taught briefly before serving from 1946-59 as mistress of boarders at Putnam Catholic Academy. She then was the superior/coordinator of Holy Ghost Convalescent Home in Uncasville, then at St. Bernard in New London and then Villa St. Joseph in Putnam.

She worked in various community services in Massachusetts and Hartford as the provincial councilor from 1971-78.

Survivors include one brother, George Pelletier of Fitchburg; one sister, Gloria Piccicuto of Leominster Mass., and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Nov. 6 at the provincial house.
