MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. – Discalced Carmelite Father Matthias (Donald) Montgomery, died on Sept. 21, 2010, at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1935, in New Britain, a son of Patrick and Mary (Fagan) Montgomery. He entered the Discalced Carmelite Order in Brookline, Mass., on Aug. 2, 1954.

Father Matthias made his first profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1955, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 1962. He served the Discalced Carmelites in a variety of ministries.

He is survived by his brothers, Father Joseph Montgomery of New Britain, John Montgomery of Meriden, cousins, nieces and nephews; and the Discalced Carmelite Friars. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Montgomery.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Oct. 4 at the Basilica of Holy Hill, National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Hubertus, Wis. Burial followed in the Carmelite Cemetery on the grounds of Holy Hill.
