WEST HARTFORD – Sister Genevieve Marie (Mary Elizabeth) Greenwell, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, West Hartford, died on Feb. 1, 2011, at the order’s provincial house in West Hartford. She was 92 and had been in religious life for 73 years.

Sister Genevieve Marie was born on May 21, 1918, in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Genevieve L. (Linehan) Greenwell. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on Sept. 15, 1937, and celebrated her perpetual vows on May 6, 1944.

Sister Genevieve Marie taught for many years in the Archdiocese of Hartford and in Ridge, Md.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Benedict, James and Frank Greenwell, and one sister, Sister Charles Benedict Greenwell. She is survived by her religious community, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Feb. 5 in St. Joseph’s Chapel at the Convent of Mary Immaculate in West Hartford. Interment was in the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery in West Hartford.
