SOUTHINGTON – Joseph J. Baranowski, husband of the late Mary (Parzych) Baranowski, entered into eternal life on May 13, 2011, at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center in Southington.

He was the father of Father David Baranowski, Pastor of St. James Parish in Rocky Hill and director of the Archdiocese of Hartford’s Office for Divine Worship; and Mary Ann Serbin of Southington.

Mr. Baranowski was born on May 1, 1917, in New Britain, a son of the late Paul and Frances (Zelski) Baranowski. He was a former resident of New Britain and Bristol. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-45, during World War II.

He worked at Emhart (American Hardware) and for the New Britain School System and retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1982. He later worked at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Unionville from 1988-2002 as part of the maintenance crew. He was a member of St. Andrew Parish in New Britain, where he served as an extraordinary minister of holy Communion.

Mr. Baranowski was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley, William and Edward; and his sisters, Helen Sheperd, Mary Tutko, Lucy Nappi, Clara Doucette and Josephine Wilgoski.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 18 at St. James Church in Rocky Hill.

Burial with military honors was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain.
