WEST HARTFORD – Sister Francis Inez Redman, born Mary Kathleen Redman, age 94, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, West Hartford, died on Sept. 9, 2011, at the provincial house. She had lived there since Aug. 27, 2000.

She was born in St. Mary’s County, Valley Lee, Md., a daughter of the late Jessie and Lucy Madeleine Bean Redman. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1931 and pronounced her perpetual vows in August 1934.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the Diocesan Sisters College in West Hartford and a Master of Arts in administration and supervision in 1969 from Fairfield University.

She ministered in education in Hartford, Shelton, Windsor Locks, Stratford and Bristol as a teacher and principal. She also taught and was a principal in Maryland.

In 1991, Sister Francis received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Award in recognition of her devoted service to the Church

She is survived by her religious community; two sisters, Marie Redman and Ethel Pilkerton of Maryland; nieces; nephews; grandnieces; and grandnephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Agnes Madeleine Poe, Viola Saunders and Leona Bradburn, and two brothers, Joseph and Philip Redman.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept. 14 at St. Joseph Chapel in the Convent of Mary Immaculate. Interment in the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery followed.
