SOUTHINGTON – Deacon Joseph E. Kane, 88, husband of Agnes (DeVylder) Kane, died on Nov. 3, 2011.

He was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacon on March 7, 1976, by the late Archbishop John F. Whealon. He served as a deacon at St. Jerome Parish and St. John the Evangelist Parish, both in New Britain, and at St. Patrick Parish in Farmington.

He was born on June 2, 1923. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University. He served in the United States Army during the Second World War and later went on to work as the town assessor for Cheshire and, later, for New Britain.

Besides his wife, Deacon Kane’s survivors are a daughter, Sheila Dubinsky of Plantsville; sons Edward Kane of Farmington, Joseph and Kevin Kane of New Britain and Gerard Kane of Severn, Md.; and 16 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Harold, and his grandson Steven Kane.

Auxiliary Bishop Christie A. Macaluso celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Nov. 7 at St. Aloysius Church in Plantsville. Burial was in St. Bridget Cemetery
