WEST HARTFORD – Sister Constance O’Meara of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas died on Oct. 2, 2011, in West Hartford.

She was born in Norwalk, a daughter of the late Eugene and Constance (Connor) O’Meara. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on July 2, 1946, at age 20. She earned a master’s degree in physics from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

She also received an advanced degree in education from St. Joseph College in West Hartford while simultaneously teaching in several schools in the state, including in Greenwich and at Mount St. Joseph Academy, Lauralton Hall and, most recently, St. Joseph College, where she served for 19 years. During that time she was a member of the math department faculty and a tutor at what is now the Center for Academic Excellence.

Sister Constance also was the director of novices and a member of the Connecticut Sisters of Mercy leadership team. In 2010, she retired to the Frances Warde Towers apartments at St. Mary Home.

She is survived by her brother Eugene, nieces, a nephew and a grandniece.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Oct. 31 at St. Mary Home’s chapel. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery.
