HAMDEN – Sister M. Dorothea Dottario, a member of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, died peacefully on March 25, 2012, at Sacred Heart Manor.

She was born on May 4, 1915, in New Britain, a daughter of the late Michael and Madeline Marcelli Dottario. She entered the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Aug. 24, 1934, professed first vows on Aug. 24, 1938, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 24, 1943, all in New Haven.

Throughout her 73 years of religious life, Sister Dorothea served in education, at St. Michael School and St. Anthony School in New Haven, as well as in New York, Pennsylvania and Missouri. She also briefly ministered in social work at St. Anne Parish in Hamden. She retired in 2001 to a ministry of prayer at Sacred Heart Manor.

Sister Dorothea was predeceased by her parents, her brother Anthony and her sisters Theresa, Florence Gibilisco and Margaret Truncale. She is survived by a sister, Lena Albanese of Cromwell, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her religious family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 29 in the chapel at Sacred Heart Manor. Burial followed in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
