GLASTONBURY – Deacon Martin Jacques, age 88, of Glastonbury and Holiday, Fla., husband for 67 years of Priscilla “Pat” Jacques, died peacefully on Aug. 22, 2013, while surrounded by his family.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1924, in Manchester, N.H., a son of the late Joseph and Clara (Lessard) Jacques. He had lived in Glastonbury since 1953. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated the JMJ Concrete Construction Co.
He was ordained a permanent deacon on July 13, 1979, and served at St. Paul Church in Glastonbury. His ministry focused on the sick and elderly. He was a member and past president of the St. Paul Men’s Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife, survivors include his six children, Denise Hammond of Holiday, Fla.; Michael Jacques of Scotland; Peter Jacques of Columbia; Jean Jacques of Marlborough; Lizette Hykes of Glastonbury; and Dianne Munsell of Andover; a brother Gerard and a sister Anita Branchard, both of Canada; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Peter A. Rosazza celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Aug. 26 at St. Paul Church. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery.
