WEST HARTFORD – Sister of Mercy Barbara Bossler died on Dec. 1, 2013, in West Hartford.

Born March 23, 1938,  a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hotkowski) Bossler, she was raised in Hartford, where she attended St. Joseph Cathedral grade and high schools.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin from St. Joseph College in West Hartford before entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1960.

While teaching high school at Mercy in Middletown and Mount St. Joseph Academy, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Latin and a sixth-year certificate in English.

Most of her next 32 years was spent teaching Latin at St. Paul High School in Bristol and Longfellow School and Central High, both in Bridgeport, before her retirement in 2010.

Sister Barbara recently celebrated 53 years of religious life.

She was predeceased by her parents and her twin sister, Carol Ann Liska. She is survived by her sister, Janet Cohen, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, a brother-in-law and her sisters in the Mercy community.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Dec. 5 in the chapel of St. Mary Home.

Burial was Dec. 6 at St. Mary Cemetery.
