GOSHEN – Sally J. Smith passed into eternal rest on Jan. 31, 2014, at her home in Goshen.

She was the mother of Father Anthony Smith of Bloomfield, director of vocations and coordinator of campus ministry for the Archdiocese of Hartford; Marty and Patrick Smith, both of Beaufort S.C.; Nancy Cassella of Farmington; Ann Lefferts of Kerhonkson, N.Y.; Mary Sage of Old Saybrook; and Thomas Smith of West Hartford.

She also leaves 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Arthur E. Smith.

She was born on Dec. 7, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Leo and Helen Sittinger.

She worked for the Detroit Edison Co. and then at Read’s Department Store in Danbury.

She and her husband lived and raised their family in Virginia; Michigan; Connecticut; Wiesbaden, Germany; and Seven Oaks, Kent, England.

She was a daily communicant at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Goshen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Feb. 7 at St. Thomas of Villanova Church.
