EAST WINDSOR – Deacon Donald E. Norton, 76, of East Windsor, formerly of Windsor, husband of Beverly (Rich) Norton, died on Aug. 22, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born in New Britain, a son of the late Russell and Yvonne (Nicholas) Norton, and he lived in West Springfield, Mass., and Monroe before moving to Windsor in 1974.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1960 from the American International College and a Master of Business in Accounting degree in 1980. He was an asset and portfolio manager for real estate investments for CIGNA prior to his retirement in 1996.
He had been active in the real estate investment industry, serving for several years on the board of directors of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries and as the organization’s president in 1993-94.
He was ordained a permanent deacon in 1983 by Archbishop John F. Whealon. He had served at St. Gabriel Parish in Windsor until 1999 and then at St. Mary/St. Robert Bellarmine parishes in Windsor Locks. He dedicated many years to visiting the sick, administering the sacraments of marriage and baptism, and providing religious counseling and religious education.
He had been a professional assistant with Carmon Funeral Home since 2004.
Besides his wife of 54 years, he leaves daughters Cynthia Iriondo of South Windsor and Andrea Jamrog of Suffield; a son, Richard, of Tolland; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; siblings Roger Norton of Florida, Lee Norton of New York, Elaine Smith of East Hampton and Sharon Hamill of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
Auxiliary Bishop Christie A. Macaluso celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Aug. 26 at St. Mary Church in Windsor Locks. Burial followed in St. Mary Cemetery.
