HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Sister Mary Joyce, formerly Mother St. Mark of Rome, a member of the Congregation de Notre Dame, died at Andrus on the Hudson.
She graduated from St. Mary’s School and Academy in Providence, R.I., and entered the Congregation de Notre Dame in 1936. After profession in 1938, Sister Mary began her educational ministry, teaching at Waterbury Catholic High School.
Sister Mary earned a degree in education at Catholic Teachers’ College in Providence. She was a teacher and principal at St. John the Baptist school in New Haven and served at Notre Dame College and Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island, St. Mary’s Academy in Providence and at Children’s Community School in Waterbury.
She retired to Andrus in 2012. She is survived by a nephew, grandnephew and the sisters in her congregation, to which she belonged for 76 years.
