Obit Krisanda Fr Stephen 0002 webELMHURST, Pa. – Father Stephen J. Krisanda, 82, a member of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, Province of Mary, Mother of the Americas, died on June 22, 2015, at St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst.

He was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Jessup, Pa., a son of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Kromko) Krisanda. He completed high school at the La Salette Seminary in Hartford and entered the La Salette Novitiate in Bloomfield on July 1, 1952. He made his first vows on July 2, 1953. After completing his studies in the La Salette seminaries in Bloomfield; Ipswich, Mass., and at the Gregorian University in Rome, he was ordained on May 28, 1960, in Ipswich.

Father Krisanda was director of students at the La Salette Seminary in Ipswich. In 1965, he was assigned to the La Salette Missions in Las Termas and Cordoba, Argentina. While there, he served the La Salette community in many capacities as councilor, secretary, treasurer, local superior and parish pastor.

In 1968, he returned to the United States, where he continued his studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington and served as a professor and spiritual director in Ipswich. In 1969, he returned to South America and ministered there for 22 years. Upon his return to the Unted States, he served at a parish in Atlanta and then joined the pastoral team at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Hartford.

Father Krisanda then ministered at parishes in Orlando, Fla., and Holyoke, Mass.

In addition to his La Salette confreres, Father Krisanda is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Popson, and brother, John Krisanda, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Francis, Paul, Albert and Lawrence Krisanda; and four sisters, Sophie Krisanda, Catherine Kulesky, Mary Przecha and Margaret Kuchco.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated on June 26 at Queen of Angels Church in Jessup, Pa. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Jessup.
