HARTFORD – Sister M. Patricia O’Donnell, of the Sisters of Mercy, died on March 12, five days before her 92nd birthday. She was a Sister of Mercy for 74 years.

Born on March 17, 1917, in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Ferguson) O’Donnell. At age 18, she entered the Sisters of Mercy, and two years later professed vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and service.

Sister Patricia earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from St. Joseph College in West Hartford and a master’s degree in administration and mathematics from Fairfield University. She was an educator for 42 years, teaching students in kindergarten through high school.

She also was the principal at St. Mary School in New London for nine years.

Sister Patricia ministered at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Rectory in Hartford from 1985 until her retirement in 1990.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, John and Frank, and her sister, Sally Baron. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and the Mercy community.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 18 in the chapel at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery.
