BLUE POINT, N.Y. – Sister Lorraine (Sister Edward) O’Neil, a member of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk, died on May 8 at St. Ursula Center Convent in Blue Point.

She was born on July 27, 1918. She entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1932, and professed her vows three years later.

Sister Lorraine ministered for many years as a teacher, including at St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hartford and Our Lady of Victory in West Haven, as well as at schools in Seaford, Howard Beach and Ozone Park, N.Y.

After retiring from teaching, she coordinated the Ministry of Care and Services for spiritually and physically needy people of Howard Beach, Hamilton Beach, Ozone Park and Woodhaven, N.Y.

After retiring to the St. Ursula Center, she coordinated healing Masses and cared for the chapel there.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Bernadette Canner, and two nephews. She is survived by her sister, Marguerite O’Neil-Bellew, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated May 10 at the St. Ursula Center Chapel in Blue Point. Interment followed in the cemetery of the Ursuline Sisters in Blue Point.
