As we celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the Archdiocese, we look back… on July 15, 1872 when the first baptism was recorded at St. Peter's Church, New Britain. The child's name was, Joseph Graff.

NEW BRITAIN – Sister Mary Ignatia (Genevieve) Domanowski), 92, a member of the Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception, died on June 11. She was in her 77th  year of service to the Lord.

A native of Chicopee Falls, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Kopecka) Domanowski. She entered the religious community on July 17, 1932. Sister Mary Ignatia earned a certificate in child care from St. Louis University in Missouri and spent many years overseeing boys at Our Lady of Rose Hill Orphanage in New Britain. She also served at Our Lady of Rose Hill Day Care in New Britain and at St. Joseph’s Home in New York City.

Sister Mary Ignatia is survived by her sister, Wanda Kouch; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother Ted and sister Adele.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 15 at Sacred Heart Convent in New Britain. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Daughters of Mary, 23 Orange St., New Britain, CT 06053.
