CYS-2013 0535-webBLOOMFIELD – Applications are being accepted for the 2014 Catholic Youth Spectacular set for Sept. 21 on the grounds of the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary, 467 Bloomfield Ave.

The event is sponsored every September by the Office of Religious Education and Evangelization and is organized by Shawnee Baldwin, coordinator of youth ministry and young adult ministry.

Youth and young adults in grades seven and higher from parish, school, scouts, sports and other groups are invited to take part in this ninth annual event.

This year’s theme is “Working in the Vineyard: Called. Chosen. Sent.”

The keynote speaker will be Alexis Torres-Fleming, a daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants and the founder of Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, a grass-roots organization dedicated to ridding neighborhoods of illegal drug activities.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Sean Patrick Malloy,, director of youth ministry at St. James Parish in Lititz, Pa.

Other activities will include a scavenger hunt, games, lunch, workshops about visiting the imprisoned, prayer options and reconciliation. A 5:30 p.m. Mass with Archbishop Leonard P. Blair will close the day.

Buses with reduced rates are available for the day that begins with registration at 11:30 a.m. Buses depart the grounds at 7 p.m.
