Sister Carolyn Severino of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, principal of St. Mary School in Branford, stands with eighth grader Cara Samson, who recently received the President’s Education Award.

Founded in 1983, the President's Education Awards Program honors graduating elementary, middle and high school students for their achievement and hard work. The award was developed to help principals recognize and honor students who have achieved high academic goals through hard work and dedication to learning.

The program provides individual recognition of students from President Obama and Arne Duncan, U.S. secretary of education.
