MIDDLETOWN – Xavier High School’s Engineering Team took first place in the statewide Real World Design Challenge on Jan. 15 at Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

The challenge was to design an unmanned aircraft system that also featured integration and co-operative teaming from several distinct remote vehicle elements, creation of a theory of operation and development of a business plan for the commercial operations of the system.
The team created a 90-page technical report and gave a 20-minute presentation to a panel of judges from Pratt & Whitney. The team has been invited to the national competition in Washington, D.C., this April.
