Striker Roger Guedes cannot be Corinthians’ number 123 in the club’s main competition next season. According to the regulations published by Conmebol at Libertadores da América 2022, the tournament only allows entries from athletes with numbers ranging from 1 to 50.
The list is, in fact, much more comprehensive than in recent years, when the numbering should have varied between 1 and 30. Since the release of 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of entries has changed to 50 athletes.
In addition to Róger, another player who will have to change numbers is striker Jô. The number 77 shirt since his return to Timao, he tested this last year, when he wore the number 9 shirt during the Copa Sudamericana.
Another point made by the directory distributed to clubs and published online is that the deadline for disclosing entries will be April 2, the last Saturday before the start of the group stage of the competition.
Aside from Corinthians, the point was the determination that Atletico, despite being the Copa America champions, would be the champions, playing Cerro Porteno in the second pot of the dispute.
Thus, Timão already knows that he will fall into the club’s pool between Boca Juniors, River Plate, Pinarol and Nacional-Oro. The other members of Pot 1 are Brazilian and the regulation prohibits teams from the same country from crossing each other in Pot 1 and 2.
