RobDornfried-webSocial studies teacher Rob Dornfried, center, on trip to Italy with East Catholic High School Students

MANCHESTER – Rob Dornfried, a social studies teacher at East Catholic High School, has been named a Fulbright Scholar through the Austrian-American Education Commission and has been awarded a teaching assistantship to teach English and serve as an American cultural ambassador to the Republic of Austria for the 2014-15 school year.

Since 1962, the Austrian government has welcomed Americans in a cross-cultural exchange to promote mutual understanding between the United States and Austria.  Mr. Dornfried’s duties will include serving as a linguistic model of the English language, educating students about American history and culture, and participating in school and community events.

He will be stationed at two secondary schools in Innsbruck, Austria, for the academic year.

In August, Mr. Dornfried will attend an intensive German language program to acquire a functional grasp and regional dialect of the language that will help him to communicate with his students and the community.

He is looking forward to meeting with East Catholic students who are taking a school-arranged trip to the Germany and Austria in 2015.

After the year abroad, Mr. Dornfried will return to East Catholic to resume his work as a social studies teacher and coach.
